“Per cambiar le monde… a Tolosa”.
(To change the world… in Toulouse).
This work was produced as part of a collaboration between the Maison de l’Occitanie and the Espace Croix-Baragnon in Toulouse, part of a series of artistic actions entitled “Occitània /BEN/Tolosa” in 2011. In “Per cambiar le monde… a Tolosa”, composed of 50 black panels, Ben questions the place of this region and our relationship with minority languages. Written in Occitan and translated into French, these questions lead the viewer to take part in the debate without the slightest restraint. The viewer is thus invited to take part in this debate and to question the existence of languages in the world. Between the identity question of this language that he describes as a minority language and his plastic writing, Ben leads us into a labyrinth of questions and reflections on life, art and the world. An activist from the very beginning, Ben quickly became involved in protecting Occitan heritage, this territory where the Occitan language was spoken and still is.
