Amigas, amics,
it is with great sadness that I announce the death of Gustave ALIROL, our comrade president of Volèm Viure Al Pais, co-founder of the Partit Occitan and the federation Régions et Peuples Solidaires, former Vice-President of the European Free Alliance.
Gustave was mayor of the commune of Saint-Hostien (Sant Ostiau, Puei de Doma) for two terms. It was a fulminating illness that took him away with no possibility of remission. He had been hospitalized in January before a last telephone contact that I had with him. He was already feeling very tired, especially after the death of his wife. Throughout his life, his constant political commitment was devoted to the constructive search for an autonomist strategy, to the strengthening of the Occitan idea and its language, and jointly to a united action between the movements and organizations of the peoples of France and Europe.
A politician of conviction, progress, humanist, he was concerned with debating and convincing.
It is a great loss for all of us.
Our deepest condolences to Jérôme, Anne and their families.
His funeral will take place at the church of Saint-Hostien on Wednesday, February 19 in the morning.
