Writer specializing in Catharism, Honorary President of CONVERGENCIA OCCITANA and founder of OSTAL D’OCCITANIA,
Bertran de La Farge was a writer but also had a scientific background (Doctor-engineer, ESAP engineer, Bachelor of Science and Environmental Consultant).
His interest in history and European cultural sources had become his main activity. In particular, he was an apologist and active defender of both the historical French cultural diversity and of this major identity of France that is Occitan culture, both in Limousin where he was born, in Provence where he lived and in Occitania where he lived… He was one of the instigators and one of the founders of the federation Convergéncia Occitana of which he was the first President from 1998 to 2001. He was also one of the initiators and creators of the Maison de l’Occitanie, l’Ostal d’Occitània, in Toulouse, where he was President of the association Carrefours cathares, but also of the Cercle Ramon Llull, and of the association Flamme Cathare. From 2001 to 2008, he was appointed to the office of the mayor of Toulouse, responsible for the development and influence of Occitan culture. Passionate about medieval history, he is the author of several works on Occitania, the counts of Toulouse and Catharism such as “Cathar lights”, “the Occitan cross”, the “Cathar Way”, “Raymond VI the excommunicated count etc…”
CONVERGENCIA OCCITANA is in mourning, we present our sincere condolences to his wife France and his two daughters, Florence and Isabelle as well as to his grandchildren Aude and Adrien, and his great-granddaughter Lucie Ami, may God bring you to a good end…
